AI Use Cases Across the Bank

Every use case answers three questions before it goes into production: what the AI can touch, what tells it how to do the work, and who decides. The output is a draft, a lead or a recommendation. Never the record, and never the decision.

What you’ll learn

  • See 47 use cases, each filed under the department that owns the decision.
  • Tell the 19 already common in banking from the 28 still emerging.
  • Set the boundaries, the guidance and the decision-maker before a use case goes live.

Three questions. Every use case.

Take one from the inventory: the AI drafts the credit memo. Here is how it is set up before it runs.

  1. Boundaries

    What can it touch?

The spreads and the loan request.

  2. Guidance

    What tells it how?

    The bank’s credit policy.

  3. Judgment

    Who decides?

The credit officer approves. The memo is a draft, never the decision.

Boundaries, guidance, and judgment for 47 use cases across 22 departments

How to read this inventory

Every use case in this inventory answers three questions before it goes into production:

  • Boundaries: What can the AI touch?
  • Guidance: What tells the AI how to do the work?
  • Judgment: Who decides?

The output is a draft, a lead, or a recommendation. It is never the record, and it is never the decision.

Each use case is assigned to the department that owns the Judgment, so every use case has exactly one home. A check in the Common Today column means the use case is already widely found in banking, often through machine learning built into vendor products. An empty box means the use case is emerging and found mostly at early adopters. Adoption varies widely by bank size.

47 use cases across 22 departments. 19 common today, 28 emerging.
